The following infographic uses storytelling effectively. Infographics are great storytelling mediums good infographics tell stories that people remember and recall over time. Data storytelling is a great technique for guiding your audience through information. There’s knowing what you want them to know, and then there’s helping them get there. This is something a middle schooler could understand. Anyone reading this can use it to understand why, if, and when they should consider getting a flu shot, as well as other ways to prevent and prepare for a flu infection. What makes this a good infographic is that it is incredibly actionable. Here’s an example of an infographic created for a fairly general audience: Make sure it’s easy for them to read by eliminating jargon and using words they will understand. The Detail value is shown as a horizontal line across the display, representing an absolute level below which no triggers will be detected. Setting up Trigger is not unlike using a gate: you set a threshold or Detail value that distinguishes 'wanted' hits from spill and noise, then set a 'retrigger inhibit time' to prevent unwanted flam‑like retriggering directly after a hit. Hits resulting in a trigger are displayed with a small orange flag on top, and a red area to the right corresponding to the retrigger inhibit time, which is set using the large Retrigger dial. So as to capture only the intended hits, while keeping the dynamic range as wide as possible, the input level slider should be adjusted so that the loudest hits are close to the full screen height. This shows the incoming waveform from the drum track you wish to replace or augment. To the right of the browser is the main display. Trigger has its own, data‑compressed sample file format (.tci), but you can use third‑party drum samples as long as they are in WAV or AIFF format. Where sounds from different sets can't be guaranteed to be phase‑accurate, the manual tells you. This arrangement permits up to six samples to be layered simultaneously, and the library includes phase‑accurate sample sets that can be layered without the risk of frequency cancellation. The drum samples are arranged in folders by type - kick, snare, toms and so on - and samples can be loaded into any one of six slots. A browser window lets you peruse your samples, load them, load existing presets and save new Trigger presets comprising the loaded samples and their settings. On first opening the plug‑in, you'll need to select a file path to the sample folders, after which they appear every time. Where your DAW supports the sending of MIDI data to processing plug‑ins, Trigger may also be used as a sample player for its included samples. Using the supplied samples is often the preferred option, however, as the sets have been designed to minimise phasing issues when samples are layered. It can also output MIDI messages for triggering external sample players, but as some DAWs don't support the sending of MIDI data from processing plug‑ins, you can also use your own samples from within Trigger's player, and even set up your own multisample sets using the free Trigger Instrument Editor software, downloadable from the web site. Steven Slate Trigger is a drum‑replacement plug‑in that combines some clever hit‑detection algorithms with a library of replacement drum samples taken from the impressive Steven Slate Drums collection. Their latest product makes it easy to use these to augment or replace live drum parts. Steven Slate's drum samples are already a staple of rock and pop production. The mythologically oriented stories of The Silmarillion form the backbone of cosmogony and cosmology in Tolkien’s legendarium’s. Then again, posthumously published The Silmarillion is a collection of Tolkien’s mythopoeic works edited by his son Christopher Tolkien. In The Lord of the Rings, the basic task and quest is to destroy the “One Ring” which in wrong hands can bring about the destruction of all Middle-earth. The Lord of the Rings, on the other hand, is highly popular – one could say the most popular – quest-tale, ( note 3) an epic fantasy of the 20 th century addressing grand themes such as world domination, apocalyptic visions, the battle between Good and Evil (and the poor individuals in the middle of this battle), heroism, and both success and failure. The Hobbit is a fantasy book and a children’s book, basically about an episodic adventure, ( note 2) written in a fairy-tale mode. The fundamental basis of Tolkien’s legendarium is formed on three separate works: The Hobbit, or There and Back Again (1937), The Lord of the Rings (1954–55, six books, originally published in three parts) and The Silmarillion (1977). Tolkien’s (1892–1973) legendarium, ( note 1) focusing mainly on the beginning of evil and on the aspects of juxtaposing physical with spiritual, mortal with immortal and visible with invisible. This article discusses good and evil forces in J. He is currently a doctoral student at the University of Oulu, Finland. Keywords: Tolkien, Tolkien’s legendarium, good and evil, visible and invisible, mortal and immortalīiography: Jyrki Korpua is a Master of Arts in literary studies. As concrete examples of this juxtaposition from The Lord of the Rings, I discuss the beings of Balrog and Nazgûls, but also the Great Ring, the Elves, and characters of Tom Bombadil and Gandalf. Gandalf says that if his side loses, “many lands will pass under the shadow”. In addition to this, Aragorn reports the assumed death of Gandalf by saying that he “fell into Shadow”. Where Ainur are beings of light, evil forces are often described as shadows: Mordor, for example, is “Black-Land”, “where shadows lie”. For Tolkien, a word to describe Good is light, whereas Evil is described as dark or black. In The Silmarillion, for example, Ainur can “change form”, or, “walk unclad” without physical form, but those among them who turn evil, such as Melkor, lose this power. In Tolkien’s legendarium, the physical appearance is the key to the creation of “two levels”: the visible and the invisible world. From the cosmological view, the visible and invisible dichotomy is relevant. I discuss the Creation in The Silmarillion, which is at first supposedly good, but later becomes “marred” because of Melkor, who is at the beginning greatest of the angelic beings of Ainur, but later becomes the enemy and the symbol of pride and evil.
